Message sent from Brigitte Lossing, Interim Director of Recreation & Wellbeing, to participants on May 1, 2020

Alameda County, along with six other Bay Area counties, recently announced the extension of the current shelter-in-place order (with limited easing of restrictions) until the end of May.

In support of this, the Recreation & Wellbeing closure of facilities, programs and services will be extended through Sunday, May 31. We will be reviewing the new order to determine whether there will be any additional changes to our current operations and provide updates as needed.

Recreation & Wellbeing is committed to staying connected with our members and the campus community while our facilities remain closed.

  • Online programming now includes a Recreation & Wellbeing Virtual 5K, free online fitness consultations with our personal trainers, and expanded live-classes and ongoing on-demand fitness and wellness classes and workout videos so that you may continue to workout with our high-quality instructors and your campus colleagues.
  • We remain committed to our staff by providing work opportunities to student and hourly-pay employees at all levels so we can resume programs and services when the campus re-opens.
  • Program and facility operating standards are being revised to include new protocols that support CDC recommendations and meet requirements when we begin to reopen and resume operations.
  • All RSF locker clearance routines have been paused until the locker rooms reopen for use. Members interested in retrieving their RSF locker items may submit a request and arrangements will be made to accommodate.

We know that you have many fitness options to choose from and appreciate your on-going dedication to Recreation & Wellbeing at UC Berkeley. In the days and weeks ahead, we will focus efforts on continuing to provide wellness benefits through our website, social media channels.

We will continue to assess the situation during this period and provide updates with regards to future programming and availability as they become available.

For additional information, please visit the University Health Services web pages, which contains an FAQ and a video with basic information about the virus. Also, be sure to follow the latest campus developments at Berkeley News.

Please be safe and we look forward to welcoming you back on campus soon. Thank you, again, for your continued support as we navigate this challenge, together.

Sincerely,

Brigitte Lossing
Interim Director, Recreational Sports
