About The Program

The goal of the program is to develop leadership skills that can be applied to all aspects of life and utilized in any future career. The CIT is considered a volunteer staff member, attends pre-camp training and is assigned a schedule and volunteer duties with the camp he or she is placed. Most applicants will work with Explorer or Blue Camps, but there are also limited positions with the Skateboard Camp and Science & Sports Camp. CITs must have completed 9th grade to qualify.
Location: Golden Bear Rec Center (Blue Camp) and Strawberry Canyon Rec Area (Explorer and Science & Sports Camp). There are also limited position with the Skateboard Camp at GBRC and Cal Adventures Camps at the Berkeley Marina.
Please be sure to indicate that you are applying for the Volunteer Counselor in Training program. Applications are reviewed by camp committee; if selected for an interview you will be notified by e-mail in mid-April. Final selections for the program are made after the interviews are complete.
This program is for young people who are highly motivated, ready to work and play hard, and who demonstrate additional responsibility in accepting the challenges of leadership. While not required, it is highly recommended that applicants have leadership experience or experience working with children.
CITs must have completed 9th Grade and range through 11th Grade.
