Are you a current UC Berkeley student? Then you're already a member! Your student ID is your membership card and allows you to take advantage of all Recreation and Wellbeing offerings. Unless otherwise noted, all Recreation and Wellbeing activities are at no cost to students.

To enable access to RecWell facilities, all students must accept the RecWell Facility Waiver in CalCentral each academic year. The waiver is available starting July 1 for continuing students and Fall admits. For spring admits, the waiver becomes available on December 1, and for Summer Session students, on May 1.

Students will need to maintain official registration status to keep their student membership active. Please review your CalCentral account to clear any holds and avoid interruptions to your access. Need more information on holds? Visit Cal Student Central.

If you do not have your Cal 1 Card, you may still access the RSF by presenting a photo ID at the front desk. This exception is only available at the RSF and is limited to five entries per semester.

UC Berkeley Visiting and Postdoc Scholars (VSPA) are eligible to purchase a faculty/staff membership. Most VPSA participants will need to contact us for eligibility verification. Please allow up to 72 hours for this process. Once verified, RecWell membership options will become available for purchase online. After purchasing a membership, Visiting and Postdoc Scholars can use their Cal 1 Card for facility access.

Please note that monthly memberships do not automatically cancel when your appointment ends. To avoid being charged for the following month, please submit an Action Request Form by the 25th of the month.

UC Berkeley faculty and staff can conveniently purchase a RecWell membership online using their CalNet ID credentials. Once your membership is active, simply use your Cal 1 Card for access to our facilities. Faculty and staff are also eligible to enroll in a membership through payroll deduction.

Campus affiliates—including UC Berkeley retirees and graduates, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBL) staff, and University of California Office of the President (UCOP) employees—are eligible for a RecWell membership. Campus affiliates will need to contact us for eligibility verification to initiate a membership. Please allow up to 72 hours for this process. Once verified, membership options will become available for purchase online.

After purchasing a membership, visit the Customer Service Center during our hours of operation to request a membership card for facility access. Until your card is issued, you may present a valid photo ID at the front desk for entry.

If you have previously held a RecWell membership, your exisiting membership card will be reactivated shortly after your purchase.

RecWell offers a discounted membership for UC Berkeley faculty, staff, emeriti, retirees, or alumni with disabilities. For information on applying, contact us at inclusive.rec@berkeley.edu. We require documentation of disability from your health care provider to verify your eligibility for an Inclusive Rec Membership.

At this time, we do not honor UC reciprocity. 

Public visitors may purchase online day passes to the Golden Bear Rec Center (GBRC) and Strawberry Canyon Recreation Area (SCRA) Pools. Community members can participate in fee-based personal training sessions, instructional fitness classes, Martial Arts classes, and Adventures equipment rentals.

Day passes are not available for the Recreational Sports Facility (RSF), California Memorial Stadium Fitness Center (CMS), or Spieker Pool.

We're making it easier than ever for Golden Bear lap swim enthusiasts to visit the pool with our Golden Bear Pool Pass membership. Open to both campus affiliates and the broader community ages 18 or older, this pass grants access to the Golden Bear Pool at 25 Sports Lane during lap swim hours.

The Golden Bear Pool Pass is available for purchase online only and is offered as a $50 monthly recurring membership with a three-month minimum commitment. After this period, membership continues on a month-to-month basis. Golden Bear Pool Pass members must be 18 or older and are required to present a physical ID at check-in. 

Golden Bear Pool will be closed from December 20–January 11. The Golden Bear Pool Pass membership will be available for purchase beginning January 12, 2026.
