Recreation & Wellbeing Program and Service Updates

In-person programs and services available

We are currently providing programs and services to UC Berkeley students and UC Berkeley faculty, staff, retirees, emeriti, and graduates with the purchase of a membership.

Recreational Sports Facility

Beginning January 2024, the RSF Lobby is open to members or those seeking our services during the hours of operation of the Customer Service Center. When the Customer Service Center is closed, access to the lobby is open only to UC Berkeley students, RecWell members (faculty/staff/affiliate members), Cal Athletics staff, and uniformed AC Transit drivers. Members using the lobby when the Customer Service Center is closed may be asked to provide proof of membership through a physical ID card, digital image of their ID card, or receipt of membership purchase.

Any member that is disruptive or does not follow this policy will be asked to leave by staff. Failure to comply may result in arrest due to trespassing.

Check the updated hours of operation.

Weight room crowd meter

The RecWell team is excited to launch a new feature for our members and patrons starting October 28, 2024 – a virtual line for the weight room. The technology is algorithm based and will allow our patrons the ability to use their mobile device or a computer to get a spot in the line for the weight rooms.

We will start off using this tool on Monday – Friday from 5-7pm through the end of the fall 2024 semester.

Join the line. Read our FAQs for more information.

For the fall semester as we test and adapt, we will have additional staff at the entrance to the weight room to assist with the technology and answering questions. We anticipate moving to using it more frequently, specifically anytime the weight room is at 95% capacity or higher starting in the spring.

The Recreational Sports Facility (RSF) weight room capacities will be reduced and when the temperature exceeds 82 degrees, will be closed.

This determination has been made as per guidance from campus Environmental Health and Safety based on multiple factors that include a lack of mechanical air conditioning in the RSF, humidity levels, square footage, and the strenuous nature of heavy weight exercising. RecWell will continue to monitor the situation guided by a safety mindset.
