On February 2026, RecWell officially opens La Loma Field. This new field will serve as another location for open recreation and IM programming. There will be no additional cost to students for usage of this field.

On November 2025, the Chancellor has formally approved the recommendation from the Capital Planning Committee to proceed with the Phase 1 feasibility study for the RSF expansion/renovation project.

On June 2025, RecWell officially opens the new RecWell Fitness Studio. The RecWell Fitness Studio is the dynamic new home for instructional pilates and group fitness classes like yoga, strength, HITT, Zumba, and more. Just one block from the RSF, it provides a welcoming environment to move, train, and connect.

On August 2024, RecWell partnered with Life Fitness to upgrade aging and dated equipment. The goal was to expand their strength and cardio areas and deliver a more engaging, accessible environment for the entire campus community. This partnership provided new equipment for the Recreational Sports Facility (RSF) and California Memorial Stadium Fitness Center (CMS).

In 2022, UC Berkeley established the Campus Master Plan, a renewed long-term vision for the physical development of the Berkeley campus. The 2022 Campus Master Plan is a collection of proposals for big ideas and individual projects, all in support of UC Berkeley's recently updated strategic goals around: academic life; housing and campus life; landscape and open space; athletics and recreation; mobility and accessibility; seismic needs; historic resources; signage and wayfinding; sustainability and resilience; fire mitigation; and infrastructure.
This included a proposed rendering of expanding the Recreational Sports Facility (RSF) as well as some other structural changes along Bancroft Way.

In 2021, UC Berkeley created its Long Range Development Plan (LRDP). This serves one of campus's important tools for responsible long-term campus planning and for being a good community partner. At its core, the LRDP is a land-use plan that proposes how to best utilize areas of the campus and considers the associated facilities and infrastructure needed to support those uses. At the time of this LRDP, UC Berkeley's student population had grown about 50% since the passing of the Intramural Sports Fee in 1984

With the passing of the Intramural Sports Fee Student Referendum, the Recreational Sports Facility (RSF) was created. Upon its completion, the RSF spanned about approximately about 100,000 sq ft. During this time, the UC Berkeley Student population was about 30,000.
